Breathing Matters’ mission is to raise awareness and inspire fundraising for research into pulmonary fibrosis and lung infection. We strive to improve the lives of every pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis and lung infection patient by funding vital research into treatments and cures, and by improving awareness and knowledge of these conditions.
We support patient translational research and are proud to work alongside world-leading clinicians and scientists at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) and University College London (UCL), including researchers supported by the NIHR University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
Together, we are driving forward vital research into pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung diseases and lung infections – improving understanding, accelerating new treatments and bringing hope to patients and families facing these devastating conditions.
Breathing Matters is part of UCLH Charity (Registered Charity Number 1165398) and has been set up to raise funds for this research.
Founded in 2011, Breathing Matters’ philosophy is to ensure every pound raised is directed towards the research (not overheads), with over 90% directed straight to our research every year.
Our funding enables earlier initiation of research projects, which can achieve quicker preliminary data to underpin grant applications to receive leveraged funding for larger studies, and provides vital pieces of equipment and staff to carry out the research.
