Breathing Matters’ mission is to raise awareness and inspire fundraising for research into pulmonary fibrosis and lung infection. We strive to improve the lives of every pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis and lung infection patient by funding vital research into treatments and cures, and by improving awareness and knowledge of these conditions.
We support research carried out at UCLH and UCL Respiratory, one of the world’s leading research centres for respiratory diseases. UCL is the top-rated university in the UK for research strength in the most recent Research Excellence Framework. In Clinical Medicine, UCL was ranked first in the UK (according to Research Fortnight’s Power Rankings), a testament to our research strength in the Division of Medicine at UCL.
Breathing Matters is part of UCLH Charity (Registered Charity Number 1165398) and has been set up to raise funds on behalf of UCL Respiratory, the centre for respiratory research.
Founded in 2011, Breathing Matters’ philosophy is to ensure every pound raised is directed towards the research (not overheads), with 99% directed straight to research in 2019/20.
UCL Respiratory is part of the University College London Hospitals / University College London Department of Health’s National Institute of Health Research Biomedical Research Centre.
