Step Up for #Breathtember, Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of those with pulmonary fibrosis? Join us in this year’s #Breathtember challenge, Step Up for #Breathtember

September is World Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month – we call it #Breathtember.

Thanks to you, Breathing Matters is now in its 12th year.  We are calling for our supporters, friends and families to join our challenge and walk 12,000 steps a day to raise money and awareness for pulmonary fibrosis during the month of September – anywhere and anytime you choose.  12,000 steps a day reflects 12 years of Breathing Matters’ support for the pulmonary fibrosis community.

Make every #Breathtember step count:

  • STEP UP your fitness – Shed those extra pounds gained from summer indulgences. According to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, women who took 4,400 steps per day had lower mortality rates than women who took 2,700 only steps.
  • STEP UP your fundraising – Set up a Justgiving Page from our home page.  Collect donations from your family and friends to not only fuel your motivation for the challenge, but also to directly support our research.  Check out our fundraising tips for helpful advice.
  • STEP UP awareness – TWEET about your challenge using the hashtag #Breathtember to raise much needed awareness of this little known yet fatal disease. Visit our online shop to purchase one of our T-shirts, hoodies or water bottles to proudly display our logo and help spread the word.

For those that may struggle to walk 12,000 steps per day, why not get a group together to reach this daily total?

Every participant who completes the Step Up for #Breathtember challenge will receive a well-deserved medal.  It’s only £15 to register and supporters who raise over £50 for pulmonary fibrosis will be entered into a prize draw!

Where there's research there's hope

Research into respiratory conditions accounts for just 2% of all the medical research funding in the UK.
