We often get questions from our lovely supporters about how they can help with our vital research into pulmonary fibrosis and what they can fundraise towards. We have updated our pulmonary fibrosis wish list with this in mind and thought this may help:
£5 – Equipment to take blood from a patient with pulmonary fibrosis/IPF for research.
£10 – A specialised test to look at novel biomarkers in the blood of IPF patients.
£20 – Staining slides of IPF lungs to study novel molecules and link these with molecular imaging scans.
£30 – One hour of a Clinical Fellow’s time.
£40 – Growing individual fibroblasts in the lab from the lungs of patients with IPF.
£50 – Analysis of a novel molecular imaging (PET) scan in an IPF patient.
£100 – Tests for biomarkers on 10 patient samples.
£250 – Test novel biomarkers on 20 patient samples and 10 controls.
£500 – Isolating platelets from IPF lungs to compare with platelets from healthy lungs in the lab.
£1,000 – A new magnet for cell isolation.
£3,000 – A new centrifuge.
£5,000 – A computer for complex data analysis.
£5,000 – Towards a ‘Western Bot’ to examine abnormal proteins in IPF lungs.
£10,000 – Funding PET scans using novel molecular imaging tracers.
£12,000 – Single cell analysis in rheumatoid arthritis-related ILD.
£20,000 – Developing a breath test to detect pulmonary fibrosis.
£30,000 – Funding a named PDRA/Scientist for 6 months.
£45,000 – Funding a named postgraduate Clinical Research Fellow for 6 months.
£50,000 – Pump priming a blue sky research proposal: allows a senior clinician to undertake a substantial period of research (a year or more) as a named research fellow to develop a hypothesis, which is then submitted for full funding (£300K+) from a medical research charity.
