On 1st July 2023, we celebrate the second World Bronchiectasis Day – the aims of World Bronchiectasis Day is to raise global awareness, share knowledge and discuss ways to reduce the burden of Bronchiectasis for patients and their families worldwide. Bronchiectasis is a chronic lung condition characterised by a persistent wet/productive cough, frequent lung infections and inflammation and abnormal bronchial dilation. It can occur at any age and is diagnosed by chest CT scans. Bronchiectasis causes a significant burden on patients and their families – it can lead to accelerated lung function loss which can result in long-term disability and premature death in adults. Prior to COVID-19, Respiratory diseases, the fight for breath and lung care were not talked about enough. The pandemic brought the use of oxygen, ventilators, long-term lung health complications and, unfortunately, death into communities worldwide and has increased awareness of Respiratory lung diseases.
Bronchiectasis research at UCL Respiratory is led by Professor Jeremy Brown and his team of researchers in his internationally acclaimed research laboratory.
To celebrate and raise awareness of World Bronchiectasis Day, Jane Walker will be selling her beautifully handcrafted cards throughout July. Check out her celebratory collection below. Please contact Jane directly if you would like to purchase her cards – all the money raised goes towards bronchiectasis, pneumonia and lung infection research at UCLH and UCL Respiratory.
